Mona Lisa Mona Lisa men have named you you're 15 the next three chapters are about the 1960s and as we get closer and closer to present-day there be one more things to do part of it the civil rights movement and then the Vietnam War counterculture weather in the sixties but before there's a lot in just completed his is to term eight years as being present at president and his vice presidential candidate a man from where California actually was running against a very eloquent useful man from Boston Mass did the Republicans put in a place I can today in Newark known as Richard Nixon bin-bin Eisenhower's vice president against John F Kennedy who is the junior senator from Massachusetts I think that when they were first nominated seemed pretty clear that that Nixon probably should have one everybody wins  normally if president is popular than after he turns out then the next one on that comes along will we'll be in and so Nixon Eisenhower popular and toad look like Nixon should just kind of walk in however in the 1960s John F Kennedy was his very useful man he he had a a absolutely dazzling white and very very young and so he picked running mate exceedingly experience Manning Lyndon Johnson and and that would become incredibly important between the 60s they have the first televised debate and and multiple say that if you listen to it on I'm if you watch on television John FK if you listen to it on the radio Nixon one and the reason is because on television Nixon look sweaty and kind of me and that kind of thing what you couldn't tell on radio so-and-so Kennedy becomes elected he's the first president is there any be taking his orders from the pope which Nina me look at today seems kind of silly but but he came out in the very first speech he said ask not what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your country and just captured the imagination of people in America Young Folks you help them soda voted at Sputnik what show was the satellite put into a wall around Berlin all goes up then the United States departed to plan that native by NATO to put nuclear missiles in turkey and Russia the Soviet Union very much opposed to this  and soul asked that they not be put up there but we ignore them course because there's anything bad guys and so we the missiles in turkey and lo and behold in the summer of 62 looking at a spy satellite it appeared that the Cubans that allowed the Soviet Union to put nuclear missiles in Cuba  this probably was his closest Michigan to Blue who is these few days in 62% consider that give you that the Russians blinked and Kennedy one the premier of the Soviet Union would be removed npenn  Brezhnev Leonid Brezhnev with complete then take over the following the death of Kennedy in in in November of 1963 Lyndon Johnson became president and I will say he should have been the greatest president of the last hundred years I think that without question he was the most experienced man ever to take that job certainly will last time in years he was leader of the Senate he was in the House Representatives for time and he was leader of the Senate and he was an exceedingly powerful man I knew how to twist arms and how to get legislation passed in and I think that most people when they look at the accomplishments presidents today  that that over time what we think of presidents goes up or down and so for example John Kennedy overtime I will say that that is his rating has been going there Richard Nixon resigned office but I also believe that Lyndon Johnson who who left because of the whole Vietnam stuff so would be when you looked at and and has been improving but normally that that's what if Judgment of History takes a good 50 years because you know when you're in the moment it's too motional so Lyndon Johnson came out of taxes he he was a Democrat at a very powerful man and he did not get along the ivy league Harvard educated folks and so he was he was made of a very different one of the things he did so Kennedy Peace Corps living Johnson Vista which was not sending people to another country can you develop Dave I gave a war on poverty I'm great society program things to help the elderly and so you don't have that great Poverty of our elderly today but in the 60s 70s you certainly did he also did school lunch program start at this time I'd start at this time funding to schools schedule budget safety act when I was growing up seat belts on cars but nobody was not in common to have infant sit on them what's in the front seat  can you  Ren and soap the highway safety act of
