today we're going to go for chapter teen witch switches telling stories about some of this time. This is the beginning of the Cold War and following World War II there became two major powers that was the Soviet Union the USSR and there was the United States and the reason this is called cold war is because these two countries did not go to war with each other but we we supported countries who went to war with each other and we try to create problems for the other country where would we could because there were two different governmental systems and felt like we had the best one and they felt like they had the best one and so so there was a lot of issues around  the century who was right in following World War II the Soviet Union and Joseph Stalin had promised that in Poland and will call the Western Bloc countries East Germany Czechoslovakia Yugoslavia that would be free elections that was one of the things that Stalin had promised and in if you did have free elections in those countries but they weren't free like we think of free elections what he did is he said you can freely elected is people but there's only one person on the ballot write-in and and what Stalin was concerned about was Germany had rolled into not sure the Soviet Union twice in the last 40 years killing 40 50 million Russians and he said this will never again and so the countries around the border of Russia we are going to control bit so that Germany will never think about invading Mother Russia again and soap so the countries that surrounded Russia became puppet governments of the Soviet Union and they became known as the Iron Curtain countries and we looked at and Eisenhower in the United States looked at the so in as being a very suspicious sort of country and following 1948-49 we got involved in the Korean War which was the North Koreans communist invading the South Korea which was will call them Democratic they want read Bible will call them that and so the United States and the United Nations went in to stop the the Communist from defeating the the democratic government into China and then China China was fine and that would eventually push the United Nations to wear today in the century what they did is they divided the copy down the middle and created a no man's land where they put mines and lots and lots of troops and that's where that is Play Back in the United States there became almost sort of huge suspicion that that people within the United States government worth secrets to the Russians that was a huge issue when when the Soviet Union exploded their first atomic bomb is who do them the secrets of there was a big trial by The rosenbergs Who were put on trial about them selling secrets of the bomb to the Soviet Union are you certainly look this up there in this book the first one of the first women actually chewed in the United States was that Rosenberg who was convicted of selling secrets to the Soviet Union but but during this time the world heels that were that were given all of cheats that work with you all sign long Till's directly from this time. That we we had to sign something that says we will not be traitors tour country in treated you bad stuff you know a bad citizen this is this is during a time of great suspicion where where people worried about nuclear nuclear war people sing bomb shelters in their backyard the earthquake drills that that you practice and we get under your desk  when I was going to school those are called the time I went to school here in La those are called nuclear attack drills and you were supposed to do a Duck and Cover drill and get under your desk and it would save you from nuclear attack  that's what we were doing it anyway I heard you to go on on YouTube and look at some of the old duck cover drills I think you will find those to be fascinating the Berlin Wall being built because those are certainly available and I went there to each other okay so I hope you enjoy
